Girl Power

It doesn’t take much to find some really exciting events, websites/blogs, organizations or businesses being run for and by women.
Here are a few I’ve come across, which have been a great source of information – either personally or professionally.
Business/Professional:
A great networking resource and also provides great information on a regular basis.
I found this one on Splendora.com:
A Band of Wives is an inspiring social networking site for female entrepreneurs and likeminded cool chicks to connect with each other. Created by women for women, it’s a creative space to foster, nurture and to support the sisterhood.
Fitness:
Also, check out these organizations which promote running for women & girls.
A non-profit organization which promotes self-respect and healthy lifestyle choice, for pre-teen girls, through running.
An organization which provides training, support and motivation for women to set goals for fitness in their lives.  They have events, 5k, 10k, and Half Marathons in California.
Also, they have mini-mermaid runs for girls ages 6-12.
I ran the San Diego 5k and had a great time!

Vitamin D

Researchers are saying that the average person does not get enough Vitamin D.  Vitamin D helps reduce the risk of cancer, heart attacks, strokes, and plays a role in bone health.  Some researchers say 15 minutes of sun exposure can give you all the vitamin D you need but dermatologists are opposed to this…so remember to wear sun screen to prevent sun damage!  Also you can eat foods high in Vitamin D such as salmon, egg yolks and liver.

It’s worth looking into more information and to learn more check out this article from Yoga Journal: Sun Kissed

Behind the scenes

Ramping up for a photo shoot takes a ton of work and planning.  It all starts with the casting call and getting the “right” models.  In this case, finding our models took us on a major hunt.  We saw so many!

The casting

During the shoot, getting all the details right,  the lighting, hair, make-up, steaming, and dressing, all go into ensuring we get the right shots.

Prep and a little touch-up

When it’s all done, whew!  A little sigh of relief, a wrap photo and the end of a long but fun-filled day!

Fitness – 2010 in review

As we launch into the new year, it’s nice to take a moment and have a quick look back at 2010.  Here’s a quick peek at some of the happenings on the fitness and fashion front.

Trends in working out

There are so many choices out there and here are some that our Guests have talked about:

  • Pure Barre Method
  • The Dailey Method
  • Pilates
  • SPX Pilates
  • Yoga (types/styles include Power, Vinyasa, Bikram, Ashtanga, etc.)
  • Pole Fitness (yes, apparently it’s trying to become an Olympic Sport)
  • Rumba
  • Boot Camp and all in the incarnations of in-door, outdoor, and beach
  • Personal Training at so many different price levels
  • Spin and other gym classes

Also, make sure to remember or look into a whole host of “new” terminology and exercise trends:

  • Mind-Body Fitness
  • YogaFit (combining yoga with a variety of other activities)
  • Back to Basics (push-ups, sit-up, jumping jacks, basically think, PE)
  • Exergaming (Wii Fit)
  • Mobile Yoga….pull out your inline skates
  • Hula Hoop (made ever so popular by Michelle Obama)
  • Cardio Striptease (need I say more?)

It’s great to know we have so many choices to help us look and feel great.  Also don’t forget most studios offer a free class to entice you!

Fitness Looks and Trends

Casual and dressy looks dominated the scene with gym and workout clothes.  All the top celebrities spotted out wearing their workout clothes, post workout or even just getting around town.  Stars most frequently seen out wearing they work out gear included Cameron Diaz, Reese Witherspoon, Kim Kardashian, Gwyneth Paltrow and Christina Aguillera.

Angelina’s First Trunk Show!

Angelina hosted her first trunk show in San Francisco this week!

“My favorite thing to do is interact with people,” Angelina explained. “I would host a trunk show every day if I could!”

The show, hosted at the San Francisco Bay Club, included pieces from the Angelina workout line. The Bay Club is an active gym and health club in San Francisco’s Financial District where many busy professionals head after work. Guests were welcomed with snacks and water while they shopped.

The trunk show included pieces of the AngelinaSF fitness line. The ANGELINA SCRUNCH WAIST CAPRI is shown above.

“Helping busy people find the right active-wear is a passion of mine,” Angelina said during the show. She encouraged shoppers to touch and try on the clothes, an interaction she feels is missing when shopping online.

Angelina – running the Nike Women’s Marathon

Angie and friends

Angie just finished running the LA Marathon and due to her hectic schedule didn’t have time to train for the Nike Women’s Marathon this Sunday, October 17th.  Instead of missing the marathon all together, she’s running the half marathon with a group of close friends - Angie never passes an opportunity of getting fit or championing a good cause.

This year marks Angie’s third year running with the countless of women who are running for the cause of women’s health. This group of amazing women come from all over the world, they’d been participating in the Nike Women’s Marathon since it began seven years ago.  It’s just not a cause, it’s a place where friends meet, get fit and catch up.

Wearing your workout clothes out

When strolling through your local neighborhood you can’t be seen wearing just anything, especially if you live in a fashionable city like San Francisco.  Being a woman is challenging enough without having to worry about what we’re going to wear, especially before or after the gym.  On my last visit to LA I noticed the locals wearing hoodies as they ran their errands around Beverly Hills.  They wore them with jeans, yoga pants, and nice sweatpants while carrying their Chanel handbags.

Today gym clothes aren’t just for the gym anymore, they can be worn out during afternoon coffee or a romantic stroll after dinner.

Personally I’m fashion conscious and I’m always looking for practical and fashionable gym clothes that I can wear out & about while I’m running errands on Fillmore Street or Union Square. I never know who I’m going to run into, an ex-boyfriend, a frenemy, or a potential new boyfriend.

Whatever City you live in, wearing sportswear by Angelina you’re going to look chic and fashionable – at the gym, cross training, running a marathon or simply having afternoon coffee.
