Motivation to exercise

How to get motivated to start your workout routine:

It’s hard to start working out, I have been trying for several weeks but something always comes up that I would rather be doing.  Here are some tips that helped me get started with my workout:

1) New clothes: I got a few new cute workout tops and bottoms to add to my current collection that made me want to wear them at the gym, just to show off a little. I also made myself promise that I would not wear them to lounge around, only workout!!

2) The buddy system: Then I convinced a friend that she really wanted to spend more time with me and that working out together was the greatest way to do that. Not only would we be pushing each other but spending quality time together! Working out is always more fun with another!

3) Consistency: We set a time that we would workout together and the only thing that we were allowed to skip the workout for would be work. Setting a time helps you to make a schedule and once you have a schedule its easier not to break this habit that you have formed.

4) Goals: The last thing we decided to do to keep us “interested” was to have something to look forward to, we decided that our routine would be running 3 days, bicycling 1 day, and taking a yoga class. That not only gave us something to look forward to but also some spontaneity.  The other two days we were still active but not a set workout, giving our bodies a chance to rest.

The last piece of advice I have is….when you get home put your workout clothes on and workout. If you sit down to relax you will not go to the gym no matter what you tell yourself. I know I used to do this all the time. Workout then relax, that is the key!!

Happy Working Out!
